The travel team program is a rewarding basketball program for the experienced player who desires to play at the middle or high school level some day. Boys can expect to enhance their skills through league and tournament competition versus intermediate to advanced players from other communities. Travel teams consist of, and compete against, skilled players of the same grade level. You must live within the boundaries of the Chardon Local School District or attend one of the schools with the Chardon Schools boundaries (this includes St Mary's and Notre Dame) to play on one of the Chardon teams

The City of Chardon will attempt to field at least one team, each year, for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Each team consists of approximately 8-9 players. Boys must try out for the travel teams and will be selected by an impartial panel based on proficiency in skills, game awareness, overall effort, and potential for development. Previous selection does not guarantee selection for the current year. No fee is required to try out. Tryouts are closed to parents, and players must attend all scheduled sessions.

Please see the registration form on the city's web site at for information on tryout dates. If you are selected to a travel team, payment of $375 for the travel team season is required (includes cost of uniform).

The following describes the general expectation of the travel teams.

Travel team practices begin shortly after the teams are selected and continue until the season ends in March. Players are expected to attend a few team practices every week, as gym availability allows. Please remember that practices at the schools are cancelled whenever school is cancelled. Players should refer to their online schedule on this site for the latest scheduling.

On Saturdays and Sundays starting in mid-November through the end of January, the travel teams play in a regular season league. You will need to travel to various schools in the surrounding communities for these games. Time-off from the league schedule takes place during the Christmas and New Year holidays, though teams sometimes opt to play in a holiday tournament.

Travel teams begin playing a tournament schedule in February and March. Each team is expected to compete in 4 to 6 tournaments held at various locations throughout northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
